LOS ANGELES — Filmed one day after this year’s Grammy Awards, and broadcast on CBS on Feb. 9 and Feb. 12, The Beatles: The Night That Changed America used Vari-Lite lighting fixtures to help Grammy organizers mark 50 years since the band first performed on The Ed Sullivan Show. LD Matt Firestone chose the fixtures for the production, which was filmed at the Los Angeles Convention Center and presented by the Recording Academy, AEG Ehrlich Ventures and CBS.

RIGA, Latvia — LD Normunds Blasans specified Philips Vari-Lite’s VL3015LT Spots, VL3500 and VL3000 Washes for an open-air event featuring music from 20,000 performers celebrating Latvian culture here recently. NA Stage & Light supplied 20 VL3015LT Spot luminaires, 16 VL3000 Washes, and 24 VL3500 Wash fixtures for the 25th Latvian Song and Dance Festival, which drew an audience of more than 40,000.

Vari-Lites Fill the Rig on Mumford & Sons Tour

DALLAS – Mumford & Sons have risen from playing small bars and clubs across America to now headlining a sold-out world tour. With the band since the beginning, LD Edward Warren was creating their largest tour rig to date. Working with authorized Vari-Lite dealer Solotech, he chose to fill it with 33 VL3015 Spot and 21 VL3500 Wash FX luminaires.

ORLANDO – After the Hard Rock Live Orlando was originally built in 2001, the production team operated over the next 11 years without a lighting system upgrade.  So to update the venue, Production Manager Brian Mandigo and Lighting Director Mark Tringali received approval for a full system upgrade consisting of Philips Vari-Lite VL880 Spot and VLX Wash luminaires supplied by Zenith Lighting.

Philips Vari-Lite VL3500s Blast Color Onto WWZ Premiere

LONDON – LD Tim Routledge used Philips Vari-Lite VL3500 Wash and Spot luminaires to deliver a backdrop for the World War Z action film premiere after-show concert by Muse, held at London’s Horse Guards Parade. Epic and apocalyptic, Routledge’s lighting design not only took care of the stage but the buildings and park surrounding the area to create an eerie, experiential evening of atmospheric entertainment for the 15,000 Muse fans attending.
