USA/U.K. – USITT and Arts University Bournemouth are once again collaborating to bring you the 2021 Virtual Costume Symposium—a virtual costume study tour to introduce participants to British costume for theatre and film through the study of historical costume. This will run on Zoom from July 26 – August 6, 2021, with daily sessions at 11:00 a.m. EDT/4:00 p.m. BST. More Schools Secure Safe Stage Rigging with USITT

SYRACUSE, NY — USITT approved free stage rigging inspections and safety training for a dozen more schools this spring through its Rigging Safety Initiative. With this round of funding, USITT brings stage safety to schools in New York State, Massachusetts, Illinois, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, and Missouri. USITT’s Rigging Safety Initiative began with a $10,000 grant from JR Clancy in 2011.

Winners of the 2014 Rose Brand / USITT Action Design Competition Announced

FORT WORTH — A group of students tasked with a scenic design that celebrated oddball holidays — in their case, Leap Day — was voted 2014 winner of the Rose Brand / USITT Action Design Competition. The contest was staged at the USITT Expo, held here in late March. In a contest first, these same students also won the individual prizes for top scenic, costume, and lighting designers, as well as technical director. “Team Leap Day” members were honored for their design concept, its development and how the themed environment was lit.

Long Reach Long Riders held a raffle at USITT to benefit Behind the Scenes, a charity that helps behind the scenes workers struggling with hardships.

LRLR Raffle and Auction Raise Funds for BTS at USITT

FORT WORTH, TX — The Long Reach Long Riders celebrated their 11th ride with a raffle and live auction to benefit Behind the Scenes during the USITT Conference here in late March. Sales of raffle tickets, some key donations, and BTS and LRLR-branded swag raised just over $12,000 for the charity.

USITT has people from all over heading to Fort Worth, Texas, for the biggest theatre technology event of the year – the 54th Annual USITT Conference & Stage Expo, opening Wednesday, March 26.

USITT in Fort Worth: 250 Exhibitors, 240 Workshops and 5,000 Participants

FORT WORTH, TX — USITT reports that some 5,000 visitors will be riding into town March 26-29 for the 54th annual USITT Conference & Stage Expo. Along with products and services from 250 exhibiting companies on display, the event will feature close to 240 workshops and special honors for set designer Eugene Lee, costume designer Ann Roth and LD Shirley Prendergast.

USITT Presents LED Training with Chauvet

MIAMI – USITT and Chauvet are offering a workshop at the University of Miami here on June 3 that will explore methods of effectively blending LEDs with more traditional fixtures. The workshop is the third in the recently launched USITT Presents series of one- and two-day workshops. The series is designed to provide ongoing training for entertainment designers and technicians at low cost.

USITT Awards $26,000 in Research Fellowships

SYRACUSE, NY – Three research projects were chosen to receive a total of $26,000 in funding from USITT’s 2013 Fellowship Program, the Institute’s Grants & Fellowship Committee announced. The committee voted to give $12,000 to Helene Siebrits’ Cambodia project, $8,000 to Howard Kurtz’s Federal Theatre Project research and $6,000 to Anita Tripathi Easterling’s study of Indian stage designer Khaled Choudhury.

USITT’s 2013 Conference & Stage Expo was One for the Books

The United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) reported a banner year for its four-day Annual Conference & Stage Expo. Held March 20-23, 2013 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s Delta Center, the event attracted more people and products than any other in the conference’s 53-year history.

USITT Offers Rigging Inspections for Safer Student Stages

SYRACUSE, NY – The United States Institute for Theatre Technology offers free inspections and training for high school stages through its Rigging Safety Initiative. Applications are accepted twice a year, in spring and fall. The deadline for the spring 2013 round is April 15.

USITT Announces Winners of YT&D Awards

SYRACUSE, NY – Up-and-coming entertainment designers from colleges around the nation will receive USITT Awards for Young Designers & Technicians in the Performing Arts, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology announced this week. The awards will be presented at USITT’s 2013 Annual Conference & Stage Expo in Milwaukee March 20-23, an event that draws more than 5,000 people. High Schools Get USITT Rigging Safety Grants

SYRACUSE, NY – The United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) is providing free rigging inspections and safety training at high schools around the country through its Rigging Safety Initiative. It selects 10 schools twice a year – spring and fall – for its service, and the newest list of schools was just announced. Deadline is April 1 to apply for consideration in spring.
