BLACKPOOL, U.K. – The fourth annual Europe’s Tribute to Elvis, which took place in Blackpool’s Empress Ballroom, gave aspiring Kings of Rock and Roll the chance to qualify for a trip to the Elvis Tribute Artist Contest finals in Memphis, TN. Arranpaul Audio, which has handled lighting and audio for the event in the past, was tasked with creating the design for the 2015 edition of the contest. LD and Engineer Ollie Wilkinson used a collection of Chauvet fixtures to create something of a fresh Elvis experience for the audience during the three-day event.
GHENT, Belgium — Chauvet, based in Sunrise, FL, recently opened a full-service subsidiary in Ghent, Belgium. The company also has a location serving the U.K. and Europe based in Pinxton, U.K., near Nottingham.
CORNWALL, U.K. – Fineline supplied lighting, LED screen, rigging and crew to the 2014 Eden Sessions, a diverse series of music performances staged at the Eden Project, based here. The sessions ran over a 5+ week period and featured a line up including Skrillex, Dizzee Rascal, Katy B, Ellie Goulding, Elbow, The Pixies and others. For the second year, Fineline worked closely with Andy Cotton of TAO Productions, who production managed the events and coordinated all technical aspects.
LIVERPOOL, U.K. — Adlib supplied technical solutions, system design and infrastructure, plus audio, lighting, AV and equipment for the 2014 International Festival for Business (IFB). The production company worked with creative design specialists Evoke on the project.
LONDON – XL Video supplied projection and Catalyst control for the recent UK tour by indie rock band Bombay Bicycle Club. Incorporating video into their live tour for the first time, LD Squib took visual influences from the work of photographer Eadweard Muybridge and utilized early stop-motion animation techniques and stylization. With projection being central to the show, two Panasonic PT-DZ21K 20K projectors were utilized, overlaid to optimize the brightness, with the set circles treated as one large surface, and all the content programed in to one of XLs Catalyst media servers.
DUBLIN — OneRepublic’s headlining “Native Tour,” which completed its shows in the U.K. and Ireland on March 24 after spending last year circling the globe, was the first tour to utilize Clay Paky’s A.leda B-EYE K20 LED-based moving lights. A complement of Clay Paky Sharpys was also on hand. Neg Earth supplied the gear for the Colorado Springs, CO-based band.
LONDON — LD Steven Bewley included Clay Paky Sharpys in the rig for a concert at Shepherds Bush Empire featuring The Strypes. The gig was the first professionally lit show of the young band’s career. Bewley is known for his lighting designs for other concerts featuring Dizzee Rascal and Enter Shikari. Neg Earth provided the gear for the band’s U.K. shows, which were followed by gigs in North America in March.
LONDON —For the X-Factor Live UK arena tour, a seven-week U.K. jaunt featuring the top eight finalists from the 2013 series performing live, Blackburn-based HSL provided the lighting gear, truss elements and rigging. LD Peter Barnes designed the lighting, and lighting director/on-the-road operator was Jonathan Rouse. The live show was produced by Syco Music with technical production coordinated by Production North.
LONDON — Diversity, a team of breakdancers that won the Britain’s Got Talent competition, have been touring U.K. arenas with a lighting design by Neil Trenell. HSL-supplied Showline SL NITRO 510 fixtures from Philips Entertainment Lighting complement the pyro with bursts of intense light.
