Stage Directions Callboard, June 2023

The Howell Binkley Fellowship Program announced their third Fellow for 2023, Amara McNeil; and a 2023 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre will be presented to Production Supervisor and Production Stage Manager Lisa Dawn Cave. We also look at the Tony design nominations and present the news of appointments and promotions at the Washington National Opera (WNO).

TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts, proudly announced recently the 2022 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awardees: Fred Voelpel, Eugene Lee, Dede Ayite, Michael Curry, and Caroline F. Siedle.

2022 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awardees Announced

TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts, is proud to announce that celebrated costume designer Fred Voelpel and legendary scenic designer Eugene Lee are among the 2022 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients. Although Voelpel passed away in June, he will be honored posthumously with the TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design while Lee will receive The Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. Additionally, costume designer Dede Ayite will receive the TDF/Kitty Leech Young Master Award and visual artist Michael Curry will receive the TDF/Irene Sharaff Artisan Award.

The awards ceremony will be presented through the TDF Costume Collection on Friday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. at The Edison Ballroom. American Theatre Wing Now Accepting Applications for Classroom Resource Grants

The American Theatre Wing launches applications for its 6th year of Classroom Resources Grants – a continuation to directly address key systemic issues that create obstacles in the education and training pipeline. With the generous support of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, the American Theatre Wing (The Wing) is investing in public K-12 schools to help drama teachers get more of the resources they need to provide quality theatre instruction in their schools. These grants were established to distribute funds directly to under-resourced public schools to provide equipment, instruments, and other necessary materials to create new teaching opportunities, enhance existing theatre programs, to provide access and an introduction to theatre for children in schools. Apply for the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative University Scholarships by Feb. 28, 2022

The American Theatre Wing is now accepting applications for its 6th year of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative University Scholarships – established for high school seniors from populations historically underrepresented in the theater industry.
