John M. Flaws of La Grange Highlands, IL, co-owner of Windy City Music, a music retail business that branched out into entertainment lighting and sound systems sales and rentals, recently passed away. He was 58.

Regional Winners Announced for PLSN Hometown Hero

The readers of PLSN have spoken and we are pleased to announce the Regional Winners of the PLSN Hometown Heroes who are now the finalists for the Parnelli Hometown Hero – Lighting Company of the Year Award. PLSN readers voted for their choice of the six top regional lighting companies in North America—one for each of five U.S. regions, and a sixth for all of Canada. This narrowed the field from 36 to six regional winners, who will appear on the Parnelli Awards ballot. The ballot goes live Jan. 16, 2023 for the 21st Parnelli Awards voting. The 10,000-seat capacity Bilbao Arena this year for the first time hosted the 2022 FIBA Basketball Champions League Final 4 season-ending tournament with over 100 Robe moving lights highlighting the action for a venue packed with enthusiastic basketball fans plus a huge, televised audience. In charge of coordinating lighting for the event was Iker Gartzia from one of the region’s leading rental companies, Abs Fluge Euskadi S.L (Fluge) which was the official supplier of lighting, sound, and video for this high-profile event. Entertainment Unions Urge Congress to Restore Tax Fairness for the Industry’s Workers

Americans will soon start gathering their receipts and documents to prepare their taxes, and entertainment workers anticipate owing unnecessarily burdensome amounts in taxes because they are unable to deduct required work expenses. In a letter sent today, unions of entertainment workers affiliated with the Department for Professional Employees, AFL-CIO (DPE) call on Congress to restore tax fairness for these middle-class creative professionals by passing the bipartisan Performing Artist Tax Parity Act (PATPA), S. 2872/H.R. 4750.
