DUBLIN — OneRepublic’s headlining “Native Tour,” which completed its shows in the U.K. and Ireland on March 24 after spending last year circling the globe, was the first tour to utilize Clay Paky’s A.leda B-EYE K20 LED-based moving lights. A complement of Clay Paky Sharpys was also on hand. Neg Earth supplied the gear for the Colorado Springs, CO-based band.
LONDON — LD Steven Bewley included Clay Paky Sharpys in the rig for a concert at Shepherds Bush Empire featuring The Strypes. The gig was the first professionally lit show of the young band’s career. Bewley is known for his lighting designs for other concerts featuring Dizzee Rascal and Enter Shikari. Neg Earth provided the gear for the band’s U.K. shows, which were followed by gigs in North America in March.
LONDON — For British singer Jessie J’s Alive arena tour, LD Vince Foster included Clay Paky Sharpy and Sharpy Wash fixtures in a layered production design where lighting beams interact with 600 horizontally positioned LED strips.
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Lighting designer Andrew Nissley specified 18 Clay Paky Sharpys on electric musician Skillrex’s tour of South Africa. Durban-based Insane Sound and Lighting supplied the fixtures.
OSLO – An array of Clay Paky Sharpys, rigged in a two-tier array around the Oslo Spektrum Stadium and pointing directly at the audience, has added sparkle to the final of Norwegian Idol. LD Anders Busch specified a host of Sharpys for the closing show of the international TV show.
LOS ANGELES – Lighting designer Robb Jibson of So Midwest, Inc., is using Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures on the latest Fall Out Boy tour in an unconventional way – as spotlights on the band’s tour of the U.S. and Canada. Using the Sharpys as spotlights lets him fit lights into venues that normally wouldn’t have room to accommodate traditional, and much bigger, FOH spotlights.
LONDON – LD James Thompson is using Clay Paky Sharpys to throw laser-like beams across the audience in his show design for The Script’s current sold-out world tour. PRG is supplying the fixtures.
LOS ANGELES – American rock bands Three Days Grace and Shinedown are on the road with a rig that includes Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures. Bandit Lites supplied 28 Sharpys in the main package. A primary lighting rig serves both shows; each band also has a supplemental rig.
LOS ANGELES – Maroon 5’s Overexposed tour of North America includes Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures, which are used as a wall of light upstage of the LED screens; when the screens rotate, 144 Sharpys are revealed. Production designer/artistic director Demfis Fyssicopulos credited the grandMA2 console used for the tour, not just to control the Sharpys, but also “a plethora of media servers and custom Control Freak Systems solutions.”
LONDON – LD Mark Henderson chose Clay Paky Sharpys to deliver the ‘concert performance’ lighting in a stage production of The Bodyguard at London’s Adelphi Theatre. The show is based on the original film, made famous by Whitney Houston.
