The Howell Binkley Fellowship Program announced their third Fellow for 2023, Amara McNeil; and a 2023 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre will be presented to Production Supervisor and Production Stage Manager Lisa Dawn Cave. We also look at the Tony design nominations and present the news of appointments and promotions at the Washington National Opera (WNO).

Chelsea Antrim Dennis Joins the Washington National Opera as Director of Production
Washington National Opera General Director Timothy O’Leary and Artistic Director Francesca Zambello announce two new appointments that will oversee the newly defined Artistic and Production departments. The delineation aims to create clearer lines of responsibility, a more sustainable workload for Washington National Opera (WNO) staff, and new support for WNO’s mission. Chelsea Antrim Dennis will join WNO as Director of Production, beginning August 7, 2023. Dennis comes to WNO from Santa Fe Opera, where she currently serves as Director of Production and where she began her career in 2004. Lisa Dawn Cave to Receive The 2023 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre
The Tony Awards Administration Committee announced that they will present the 2023 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre to Production Supervisor and Production Stage Manager, Lisa Dawn Cave. The Stage Managers’ Association 2022 Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement Set for Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. ET
Virtual Event Tickets Now Available
On Monday October 24th, 2022, the Stage Managers’ Association (SMA) will present its annual Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Stage Management, at the National Opera Center’s Marc A. Scorca Hall in NYC. The distinguished 2022 honorees are corporate, event, and theatrical stage manager Andrew Feigin, opera stage manager Raymond Menard, and theatrical stage manager Bernita Robinson. In addition to these Lifetime Achievement Awards, the SMA will honor Marguerite Price with The Founders Award, and Narda E. Alcorn and Lisa Porter with a Special Recognition Award.

In Memoriam: Alan Hall, Stage Manager and Production Supervisor
Stage Directions in PLSN has learned of the death of Production Stage Manager and Production Supervisor Alan Hall, who died Monday, February 7, 2022, in Spruce Head Island, ME. Born in England in 1936, Hall was 85. Here’s a great and informative video interview with Hall from the American Theatre Wing’s Guide to Working in the Theatre series, where Hall speaks in-depth on the role of the Production Stage Manager.
