The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) celebrated its 40th anniversary on September 11, 2024, at the UBS Arena in New York. The visual centerpiece of the design was a towering 60’ tall Moon Person, designed by Matt Steinbrenner, emerging from a massive video wall and reaching 55’ into the room as if stepping out of the digital world and into the physical.
The Eurovision Song Contest’s official slogan #UnitedByMusic is applicable not only to the artists and audiences. To stage a live broadcast of this magnitude – reputedly the largest live broadcast in the world – takes huge teamwork and cooperation over a long period of time, even before the artists appear on stage. Production Designer and President of San Francisco-based Stage II Productions, Chris McGregor died of a heart attack on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 61. McGregor is widely known for his creative work for Phish and The Residents as well as lighting and production design for numerous events. His passing was initially confirmed by The Residents, who he had worked with since 1989. The nominations for the 75th Emmy Awards were announced this past week, including the nominees for the Creative Arts Emmys, honoring artistic and technical achievements in television.
