In Memoriam: Richard ‘Nook’ Schoenfeld

A remembrance of Richard “Nook” Schoenfeld, 65. Editor Emeritus of PLSN magazine and a noted Lighting Designer and Writer, Nook died on the morning of Dec. 14, 2022. Though he had beaten pancreatic cancer this past year and was cancer-free, complications from that fight resulted in liver failure. He was a legend for his wit and kindness and his loss is felt by family, friends, colleagues, and the industry as a whole.

Regional Winners Announced for PLSN Hometown Hero

The readers of PLSN have spoken and we are pleased to announce the Regional Winners of the PLSN Hometown Heroes who are now the finalists for the Parnelli Hometown Hero – Lighting Company of the Year Award. PLSN readers voted for their choice of the six top regional lighting companies in North America—one for each of five U.S. regions, and a sixth for all of Canada. This narrowed the field from 36 to six regional winners, who will appear on the Parnelli Awards ballot. The ballot goes live Jan. 16, 2023 for the 21st Parnelli Awards voting. LDI 2022 Helps Industry Gear Up for Busy 2023

The LDI Show returned to Las Vegas after a busy year of live event productions across North America. The aisles were busy with production pros seeking to gear up for another busy year ahead, with exhibitors unveiling as many new products as steadily improving supply chain conditions would permit.

An Important Trait You Need for Working in this Industry

I think that the “all hands-on deck” mentality is something that’s really important. And never getting too big for your britches; always realizing that at the end of the day nothing would happen without everybody else in the room. It is all teamwork, so staying humble and respectful is a huge one. We’ve all seen people who get jaded by the industry, so I try, every day that I get to be on site, to take a minute to be grateful. I always think, ‘I can’t believe somebody pays me enough money for this to be my career.’
