Video of the Week: ‘From the Sails: Light Years’ Celebrates Sydney Opera House at 50

The Sydney Opera House is celebrating its 50th birthday this year and the festivities included projecting the film, From the Sails: Light Years, onto the Opera House’s iconic sails. Light Years was created with principal artist Sam Doust of experiential design and technology company Art Processors, and features contributing work by artists Jake Duczynski and Jason Poley. The film celebrates of one of Australia’s most beloved buildings through a stunning light projection and live-sync soundscape designed and composed by Andrew Stevenson, Hylton Mowday, and Josh Paton.

Claypaky Partners with the Donizetti Festival and Illuminates ‘Chiara e Serafina’ with Sinfonya Profiles

The Teatro Donizetti is a true institution in the city of Bergamo. It was built in the late 18th century and was originally named Teatro Nuovo (new theatre). It has been the city’s most important opera house for more than two centuries and hosts an extremely intense schedule of plays, operas, and symphonic music. Open-Air Opera Production of ‘The Flying Dutchman’ in Lithuania

The open-air production of the Wagner opera The Flying Dutchman in the historic Paul Willy Lindenau shipyard in Lithuania was one of the absolute stage highlights in Europe in 2022 and was broadcast live on the OperaVision streaming platform. ADJ Fixtures Exclusively Illuminate 2022 MISS EARTH Slovenia Pageant

For the second year running, a lighting rig comprised exclusively of ADJ fixtures was used to illuminate the 2022 MISS EARTH Slovenia pageant. Following an online only event the previous year, due to the global pandemic, the 2022 contest took place in front of a live audience of over 500 people. 72 ADJ lighting fixtures – including the new Focus Profile and Focus Flex moving head luminaires – created a dazzling lightshow while also perfectly lighting the contestants for the judges. Curating The Making of a Broadway Show Exhibit

The Museum of Broadway, an immersive and interactive theatrical experience, has opened in New York City’s theater district. The Making of a Broadway Show exhibit was designed by Scenic Designer and Architect David Rockwell with Faye Armon-Troncoso serving as Set Decorator & Prop Supervisor. She spoke with Stage Directions in PLSN about her work in support of this thoughtful and deep diving look at the many people, roles and elements that bring a Broadway show to the stage. Featuring the work of dozens of designers, theater artists, and historians, the museum’s exploration of the past, present, and future of Broadway is receiving standing ovations from visitors.

Fisher and Tipton the Ming Cho Lee Lifetime Achievement in Design Honorees

Legendary lighting designers Jules Fisher and Jennifer Tipton were each honored with the Ming Cho Lee Award for Lifetime Achievement in Design, bestowed by the Henry Hewes Design Awards during the 58th annual awards ceremony on Oct. 24. “In honoring Jules Fisher and Jennifer Tipton,” said Jeffrey Eric Jenkins, chair of the awards committee, “we celebrate two pioneers who have given us so many important dramatic memories—and have lit the way for those who follow.”

Astera Titans for Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival

Astera Titan Tubes provided a great solution for the lighting of a rolling ‘small stage’ scenic truck which was central to the action for the 2022 Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival’s acclaimed production of Alessandro nell’Indie (Alexander in India) by Leonardo Vinci, directed by Max Emmanuel Cancic and lit by David Debrinay from Paris and Lyon, France, based design studio, LJOMA.
