Early Career: The 1/52 Project Grantees

The 1/52 Project, the financial grant program founded by Tony Award-winning set designer Beowulf Boritt, has selected seven early-career designers as its first group of grant recipients. Each of the inaugural recipients will receive grants up to $15,000. The 1/52 Project launched in January 2022 with the goal of providing financial support to rising designers from historically excluded groups with the aim of diversifying and strengthening the Broadway design community.

Lighting Designer Ben Gilbert Shines a Light on LANY

American pop rock band LANY recently wrapped their 34-city Summer Forever tour with a lighting system supplied by Bandit Lites. The band, named as an acronym for Los Angeles and New York, is comprised of the duo Paul Jason Klein and Jake Clifford Goss. Video of the Week: James Earl Jones on the Dedication of Theater Named for Him

On Monday, Sept. 12, The Shubert Organization officially dedicated and revealed the newly renamed James Earl Jones Theatre, formerly the Cort Theatre, in honor of the iconic multi-award-winning American actor. The dedication ceremony follows a $47 million restoration and expansion of the 110-year-old Broadway theater. Jones recalled making his Broadway debut on this very stage in 1958.

2022 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awardees Announced

TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts, is proud to announce that celebrated costume designer Fred Voelpel and legendary scenic designer Eugene Lee are among the 2022 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients. Although Voelpel passed away in June, he will be honored posthumously with the TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design while Lee will receive The Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. Additionally, costume designer Dede Ayite will receive the TDF/Kitty Leech Young Master Award and visual artist Michael Curry will receive the TDF/Irene Sharaff Artisan Award.

The awards ceremony will be presented through the TDF Costume Collection on Friday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. at The Edison Ballroom. In Memoriam: Robin Alexander Irvine, Tour Manager, 77

Robin Irvine, a New York-based tour manager for such acts as Cyndi Lauper, Foreigner, B-52’s, Eurythmics, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Robert Gordon and many others, died Aug. 21 at the age of 77. An open-mic celebration of his life is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022 at the Washington Irving Boat Club in Tarrytown, NY from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
