URTA Auditions & Interviews (URTAs) Return to In-Person Event

Virtual and hybrid options for participation to continue

After two years of fully virtual programming, the URTA Auditions & Interviews—widely known as “The URTAs”—will return with in-person events in New York City and Chicago. Video of the Week: James Earl Jones on the Dedication of Theater Named for Him

On Monday, Sept. 12, The Shubert Organization officially dedicated and revealed the newly renamed James Earl Jones Theatre, formerly the Cort Theatre, in honor of the iconic multi-award-winning American actor. The dedication ceremony follows a $47 million restoration and expansion of the 110-year-old Broadway theater. Jones recalled making his Broadway debut on this very stage in 1958.

2022 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awardees Announced

TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts, is proud to announce that celebrated costume designer Fred Voelpel and legendary scenic designer Eugene Lee are among the 2022 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients. Although Voelpel passed away in June, he will be honored posthumously with the TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design while Lee will receive The Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. Additionally, costume designer Dede Ayite will receive the TDF/Kitty Leech Young Master Award and visual artist Michael Curry will receive the TDF/Irene Sharaff Artisan Award.

The awards ceremony will be presented through the TDF Costume Collection on Friday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. at The Edison Ballroom. New Dates Announced: ADJ Future Focus Road Show in U.S. and Mexico

Following a successful launch in NYC earlier in August and second event at company headquarters in Los Angeles Aug. 25, the ADJ Future Focus Road Show will roll out to locations across the U.S. and Mexico throughout the fall. New York State Launches $100 Million New York City Musical and Theatrical Production Tax Credit

Post-Pandemic Program Will Encourage Reopening of Broadway Productions as Part of State’s Comprehensive Economic Recovery Initiative  

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced the launch of the new $100 million New York City Musical and Theatrical Production Tax Credit, designed to help revitalize an industry vital to the state’s continued economic recovery. This program will further jump-start the entertainment industry and help to generate additional tourism activity in New York City. Prior to the pandemic, Broadway theatres welcomed a collective audience of nearly 250,000 people each week, while the industry supported more than 90,000 local jobs and contributed over $14 billion to the New York City economy annually. Since the program was first announced as part of the FY 2022 Budget, at least 35 productions have announced opening performance plans for this year.
