Designer James L. Moody died this year at the age of 80. A pioneering lighting designer for concerts, television, and theater as well as a professor, lecturer, author, and mentor, Moody had an amazing and varied career that influenced many throughout the live entertainment industry.

Designer James L. Moody died on Monday, February 20, 2023, at the age of 80. Lighting Designer for theater, concerts, and television as well as professor, lecturer, author, and mentor, Moody had an amazing and varied career.

We send our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues on his passing. In Memoriam: Joseph N. Tawil, Lighting Innovator and Marketer

Stage Directions and PLSN have learned of the death of Joseph N. Tawil on Nov. 17 at age 84. He was an innovator and marketer of theatrical lighting products over his long career. At the time of his retirement, Tawil was the founder and President of Gam Products, Inc., the Los Angeles-based theatrical lighting and special effects company he founded as the Great American Market in 1975. He was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, a Fellow of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT), and an associate member of The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC).

Rosco Releases Internal Memo of Aims with GAM Products

STAMFORD, CT — Stan Miller, chairman of the board for Rosco, pictured right, wrote a memo for internal distribution to all of Rosco employees to explain a little more of the rationale behind Rosco’s acquisition of GAM Products. Rosco then made the memo available to PLSN, Stage Directions and others as a way of clarifying the reasons behind the purchase and how it fits within Rosco’s business objectives. A copy of the memo, written by Miller, is reprinted below. Pictured left is GAM Products founder Joe Tawil.
