The Art of Asymmetry at Connection Pointe Christian Church with CHAUVET Professional

“Seldom is asymmetry merely the absence of symmetry,” wrote the German mathematician Herman Weyl. The famed theorist made this observation in relation to one of his landmark scientific and philosophical studies, but his words apply equally well to design. At their best, asymmetrical looks possess a unique power all their own to endow a stage with a sense of rhythm and motion that challenges the observer to see things in a new way.Read More »The Art of Asymmetry at Connection Pointe Christian Church with CHAUVET Professional

Making Haze with Fog

The key to achieving a successful haze effect with a fog machine comes down to a few main factors, notes Jason Reberski in his article, “In Favor of Fog and Fans” (PLSN, Nov. 2022, page 46). First, you will need a fog machine that has good low-end control; meaning that ideally, it must be able to consistently output a small trickle of fog (less critical if your application is outdoors or very large scale). Second, a long-lasting, slow evaporating fog fluid made of higher molecular weight, low vapor-pressure glycols is required. Third, a good fan is a must. Almost any fan will work if it is quiet and moves enough air to properly aerate the long-lasting fog into a haze.

In Favor of Fog and Fans

Fog enthusiast, Jason Reberski speaks about bringing back fog and fans to get that just right atmosphere with his tried-and-true method of using fog machines paired with DMX-controlled fans to create variable levels of haze for productions.

The Rady Shell Invests in a Follow-Me Followspot System

San Diego Symphony’s The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, which opened in the summer of 2021, is located on the edge of San Diego Bay. The Rady Shell was looking for a reliable followspot system they could use during the symphony, concerts, and events. Jason Rothberg, Technical Director and Lighting Designer at The Rady Shell understood the unique challenges that his venue faced. Being an outdoor venue, Rothberg knew that a traditional followspot would not be an option. While the original design centered around a brand-specific moving light and tracking system, the exterior venue wanted a system that would meet IP65 standards for outdoor use.Read More »The Rady Shell Invests in a Follow-Me Followspot System
