Randy Mayer, longtime Director of Concert Touring for Screenworks/NEP, died Aug. 2, 2022 at age 48. Based in the Los Angeles area, Mayer joined Screenworks in Jan. 2010 after playing a key role expanding West Coast sales for High End Systems and related products. He is survived by his wife Jocelyn and two sons. Mayer also leaves behind many industry friends, some of whom shared their remembrances with PLSN.

Joel Coen wanted to do Macbeth. But not just any Macbeth, a black and white version inspired both by comic books and German Expressionism. The stars on screen for The Tragedy of Macbeth are Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington—but the stars in the lighting rig were ETC and High End Systems fixtures. The lighting team that put them there and used them to great effect was led by Gaffer Michael Bauman and Lighting Programmer David Kane. Here is a video on the making of The Tragedy of Macbeth. ShapeShifter from Barco’s High End Systems is designed with 126 high-powered LEDs with custom lensing to provide a powerful beam of light. Seven independently controlled modules housed in one moving fixture promise a multitude of highly defined beams to form a head-turning array of effects. The product is distributed in the U.S. by Creative Stage Lighting.
AUSTIN, TX — LD Marty Postma, who has been tinkering with the idea of wrapping and enveloping the rock band Alice In Chains with a lighting rig that surrounds them “like a shell” for several years, got the chance to “make it happen on a large scale” with gigs earlier this year. The fixtures specified for these shows centered on gear from High End Systems, including their ShowGun, Cyberlight 2.0, Intellaspot and TechnoArc units.
LOS ANGELES — Elation announced that it has reached an agreement with Austin, TX-based High End Systems to distribute the company’s new HedgeHog 4 (pictured here) and Nano Hog 4 lighting consoles in the Americas, India and Southeast Asia.
