LOS ANGELES — Leroy Bennett’s lighting design for the current Nine Inch Nails Tension 2013 tour features the largest installation of Ayrton MagicPanel 602 units to date. The lighting/video setup includes 126 of the moving head LED beam projectors. Each unit features 36 15W Osram RGBW LED modules — so there were 4,536 emitters in all for the visual design team to play with.

In this industry, it takes something unique to get designers excited about a lighting fixture. In fact, it’s usually only once every couple of years that something inventive and different enough comes along that elicits that collective “Cool!” from designers. Well, it seems it has happened again. This time, it’s not a typical lighting fixture with more output, more gobos, better color mixing, etc., that is causing the stir; it’s the MagicPanel 602 from Ayrton. What is it that makes this product unique you ask? Let’s take a look.

Ayrton’s MagicPanel 602 has 36 15W RGBW LEDs with high-output 7.5° 45-mm optics, and the fixtures also feature continuous double rotation in Pan and Tilt mode. Consuming 600W, the fixtures offer an overall luminous flux in excess of 14,000 lumens. 4G Ayrton technology gives users individual control of each LED source in expanded Full Color mode. The fixture can be used in groups to display letters or graphics via ArKaos Kling-Net or DMX RDM via its XLR connectors.
