Early Career: The 1/52 Project Grantees

The 1/52 Project, the financial grant program founded by Tony Award-winning set designer Beowulf Boritt, has selected seven early-career designers as its first group of grant recipients. Each of the inaugural recipients will receive grants up to $15,000. The 1/52 Project launched in January 2022 with the goal of providing financial support to rising designers from historically excluded groups with the aim of diversifying and strengthening the Broadway design community.

Video of the Week: James Earl Jones on the Dedication of Theater Named for Him

On Monday, Sept. 12, The Shubert Organization officially dedicated and revealed the newly renamed James Earl Jones Theatre, formerly the Cort Theatre, in honor of the iconic multi-award-winning American actor. The dedication ceremony follows a $47 million restoration and expansion of the 110-year-old Broadway theater. Jones recalled making his Broadway debut on this very stage in 1958.

Bandit Lites Illuminates Medal of Honor Convention

The Congressional Medal of Honor Society returned to Knoxville to celebrate and pay tribute to the great sacrifices made by Americans around the world in defense of our country. 2022 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awardees Announced

TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts, is proud to announce that celebrated costume designer Fred Voelpel and legendary scenic designer Eugene Lee are among the 2022 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients. Although Voelpel passed away in June, he will be honored posthumously with the TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design while Lee will receive The Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. Additionally, costume designer Dede Ayite will receive the TDF/Kitty Leech Young Master Award and visual artist Michael Curry will receive the TDF/Irene Sharaff Artisan Award.

The awards ceremony will be presented through the TDF Costume Collection on Friday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. at The Edison Ballroom. PLASA 2022: The Gottelier Award Honoree is JB Toby – Technical Director for Avolites

JB Toby, Technical Director, Avolites Ltd is the 2022 Gottelier Honoree

Following the PLASA Innovation Awards, the prestigious Gottelier Award was presented to JB Toby, Technical Director for Avolites. This award, named in memory of Tony Gottelier, the renowned industry innovator and commentator who passed away in 2006. The Gottelier Award recognizes individuals or teams of people who have made sustained and significant contributions to the development of entertainment technology.
