Regional Winners Announced for Lighting Hometown Heroes

PLSN is pleased to announce the Regional Winners of the Lighting Hometown Heroes. All six regional winners are now the finalists for the Parnelli Hometown Hero – Lighting Company of the Year Award. The six top regional lighting companies in North America—one for each of five U.S. regions, and a sixth for all of Canada were voted on by the industry as they narrowed the field from 36 to the six regional winners.

The six regional winners will appear on the Parnelli Awards ballot as finalist when the ballot goes live Oct. 28, 2024 for the 23rd Parnelli Awards voting. Astera PlutoFresnel Wins PLASA Innovation Award

Wireless LED lighting manufacturer Astera was delighted to win a coveted 2023 PLASA Award for Innovation for its new PlutoFresnel product. The Awards – which recognize and reward next-generation products and those behind them – were announced during the 3-day PLASA London entertainment technology expo staged at the Olympia showgrounds last week. Sinéad O’Connor is introduced at the 1989 Grammy’s performing “Mandinka”

As we mark the passing of Sinéad O’Connor, who died at the age of 56 on July 26, 2023, we share this video of the first live performance many of us in U.S. saw of the incredibly talented artist. She performed “Mandinka” on the 1989 Grammy Awards, where she was nominated for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female for her 1987 debut album, The Lion and the Cobra. Her performance won the audience over, though she lost the award to the iconic Tina Turner.

Each year, PLSN honors regional lighting production companies with our Hometown Hero award. This award—from nominations to winners—is selected by PLSN readers. The winning company will receive the Parnelli Hometown Hero Lighting Company of the Year Award on Jan. 26, 2024 in Anaheim, CA during NAMM. But hurry, nominations close soon. The deadline is this Friday, Aug. 25, at 5 p.m. PDT.

Emmy Nominated Production Design

Among the nominees for the 2023 Creative Arts Emmy Awards is NBC’s ‘Carol Burnett: 90 Years Of Laughter + Love’ for Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Special recognizing Production Designer Tamlyn Wright and Art Director Travis Deck. OSA Lights Up Peter Frampton’s ‘Never Say Never’ Tour

OSA International, a full-service production company with offices in Nashville, Las Vegas, and Chicago, is supplying the lighting gear and product support for Peter Frampton’s comeback tour, Never Say Never. To visually bring his shows to life in concert, Frampton turned to Lighting Designer and Emmy-award winner Gregg Maltby and a full complement of OSA lighting.
