In Memoriam: Richard ‘Nook’ Schoenfeld

A remembrance of Richard “Nook” Schoenfeld, 65. Editor Emeritus of PLSN magazine and a noted Lighting Designer and Writer, Nook died on the morning of Dec. 14, 2022. Though he had beaten pancreatic cancer this past year and was cancer-free, complications from that fight resulted in liver failure. He was a legend for his wit and kindness and his loss is felt by family, friends, colleagues, and the industry as a whole.

The Darkroom Creative Draws on GLP Classics for Walker Hayes’ Arena Tour

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Walker Hayes recently embarked on his first headline arena tour, with the help of The Darkroom Creative (Seth Jackson and Nathan Alves), who were responsible for the stage lighting. Helping them build their set was a bunch of classic but timeless ‘impression’ LED fixtures from GLP – notably around 60 of the compact X4 S LED washlights and X4 Bar 20 battens, agile workhorses which helped make the production budget stretch. Robe in the Spotlight for the 2022 Basketball Champions League Final Four

The 10,000-seat capacity Bilbao Arena this year for the first time hosted the 2022 FIBA Basketball Champions League Final 4 season-ending tournament with over 100 Robe moving lights highlighting the action for a venue packed with enthusiastic basketball fans plus a huge, televised audience. In charge of coordinating lighting for the event was Iker Gartzia from one of the region’s leading rental companies, Abs Fluge Euskadi S.L (Fluge) which was the official supplier of lighting, sound, and video for this high-profile event. Rapyd’s ‘Hack the Galaxy’ Event Shines with Claypaky Fixtures Chosen by Lighting Designers Omer Israeli and Dor Aichner

Lighting Designers Omer Israeli & Dor Aichner of Tel Aviv-based lighting and stage design company, LEAD, chose a large complement of Claypaky fixtures to illuminate the dynamic, futuristic Hack the Galaxy event held by Rapyd at the 2022 Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal. They utilized 96 Tambora Batten Square, 16 Mythos 2, and 48 Xtylos fixtures for the third and last event in Rapyd’s Hack the Galaxy campaign held at developer conferences in Europe in 2022. Previous events took place in Berlin, Germany and Zadar, Croatia. Lisbon’s Web Summit is an annual tech conference focusing on Internet technology, emerging technologies and venture capitalism. Upstaging Celebrates 50 Years

Live entertainment lighting and trucking company Upstaging marked its 50th anniversary in 2022. During the past half century co-founders, brothers Robert and Don Carone, and Robin Shaw, joined in 1979 by John Huddleston, have turned Upstaging from a garage-based pioneer into a stalwart of the industry. The four share with PLSN some of their reflections growing a company alongside the concert touring industry—the beginnings, the milestones, and what they hope people know about Upstaging today.
