The Santa Fe Opera has appointed Eileen Garcia as its new Properties Director. Garcia had returned earlier this year as the Interim Properties Director to take the place of longtime SFO Properties Director Randy Lutz, who died on January 12, 2021. Stage Directions sends its sincere congratulations to Garcia and look forward to hearing all about her next act!
Previously Garcia was with the SFO from the 2001 through 2017 Seasons, and from 2009 to 2017 she filled the role of Assistant Properties Director. She currently is the Associate Properties Director with the Denver Center for the Performing Arts where she has been since 2011.
Over the years, Garcia’s additional experiences have included: Properties Master and Scenic Charge at Purdue University; Properties Master at the Signature Theatre in Shirlington, VA; freelance designed and propped for the Smithsonian’s Discovery Theatre; The Adventure Theatre in Maryland; and Washington Shakespeare Company.
A native New Mexican, Garcia holds a BA in Theatre from New Mexico State University and has her MFA in Design & Technology/Scenic Design from Purdue University, and her MA in the History of Decorative Arts, Focus in 19th Century Furniture and Costume from The Corcoran College of Art and Design and the Smithsonian Associates.
