USS Midway Serves as AV Concepts Projection Surface for Patriot Awards

SAN DIEGO — For the 5th Annual Midway American Patriot Awards, a gala honoring senator John McCain, vice admiral James Stockdale and naval aviators, AV Concepts transformed the above-flight deck portion of the aircraft carrier USS Midway with large format projection.

The island above the flight deck measured 175 by 65 feet and was far from an ideal projection surface, with all its shapes, curves and dimension. To overcome those challenges, AV Concepts used their proprietary Liquid Scenic media server and graphics software to seamlessly “paint” the entire area with virtual 3D imagery.

“As an event planner, I try to create an experience for my guests, and I look for an audio visual partner who can see my vision and can help me take it to the next level,” said Patricia Capritta of Capritta and Associates, Inc. “AV Concepts is that kind of partner. “They make your vision come alive.”

AV Concepts’ President Nick Smith said, “AV Concepts is unique in our ability to blend the use of technology with creative, delivering experiences beyond expectations. Seeing the USS Midway transformed in a way that has never been done before is an exciting challenge for our team.

“We thrive on bringing the next new idea to life,” said Nick Smith, president of AV Concepts, which has also animated national conferences, tradeshow booth exteriors, and nightclubs with its dynamic scenic imagery. “The ultimate reward is the incredibly positive response from our clients and the attendees.”
