MUMBAI – Christie and its partners, Modern Stage Service, Video Design and Audio Design have joined forces once again to showcase a live demonstration of projection mapping at Palm Expo 2014, taking place at the Bombay Exhibition Center in Mumbai from May 29 to 31.
The seven-minute projection mapping performance at booth J43 & J46 titled “An Immersive Stereoscopic 3D Augmented Reality Experience With Live Interaction” is conceptualized, designed and executed by award-winning projection designer Bart Kresa and his team from BARTKRESA design Inc. This is the first time in the world that a projection mapping performance has been accomplished with a combination of live choreographed dancing, utilizing both traditional and stereoscopic projectors to achieve an augmented theatrical setting. Eye-catching visuals are mapped on multiple surfaces and a projected dome structure using the Christie Roadster HD10K-M, Christie Roadster HD20K-J 3-chip DLP projectors and Christie G Series 1-chip DLP projectors.
Equipped with DLP technology, high-quality optics and 10-bit image processing, the Christie Roadster Series utilize light efficiently to ensure brightness uniformity throughout the images that are projected onto irregularly-shaped “screens” such as buildings, interior spaces and natural landscapes. Embedded with Christie Twist, the projectors allow users to expertly edge-blend and warp multiple curved images seamlessly to almost any projection surface – flat, curved or spherical. Coupled with other benefits such as low cost of operation and ease of use, the Christie Roadster Series is undoubtedly the de facto standard for rental/staging.
Offering unsurpassed value and a perfect fit for a variety of applications, the Christie G Series projectors provide excellent image quality and reliability. Ideal for 24/7 operation, the filter-free, dust-sealed design prevents dust and dirt from affecting the projector, ensuring that image quality is preserved and maintenance costs are minimal. The Christie G Series is packed with ProAV features, including three resolution options, built-in color matching for a more uniform image in a multi-projector configuration, as well as blending and warping capabilities to handle curved surfaces.
“We are very excited to work with Modern Stage Service, Video Design, Audio Design and Bart Kresa once again following our very successful collaboration during last year’s Palm Expo,” said Rajesh Patkar, deputy general manager, Christie India. “This time, the projection mapping is performed at our booth on multiple surfaces and a dome-shaped structure to present a dynamic visual display of 2D and 3D images that can transform what is reality for the audience into illusions and images of infinite possibilities.”
In India, Christie has worked with Modern Stage Service and Video Design, as well as Kresa respectively on various occasions. Modern Stage Service and Video Design were involved in the creation of a stunning multimedia show using projection mapping at the Old Fort in New Delhi, while Kresa designed and executed a brilliant projection mapping performance on the facades of Jodphur’s renowned Umaid Bhawan Palace by transforming it into an impressive showcase of one-of-a-kind environment. In addition, Christie’s projectors were also used by Kresa to deliver an engaging visual spectacle during the opening ceremony of the Lusofonia Games held in Goa earlier this year.
“Palm Expo is one of the most comprehensive audiovisual and live entertainment sector trade shows held in India and we’re pleased to be here to create and deliver a unique projection mapping show that not only offers a fascinating kaleidoscope of India’s rich culture, but also showcase how advanced visual technology can be used to wow and boggle the minds of audiences,” said Kresa.
“Projection mapping is quickly becoming a widely-requested communication experience used to complement large events and destinations for entertainment and other purposes,” added Davinder Wadhwa, director, Modern Stage Service. “Through our joint exhibit with Christie at Palm Expo, we’re able to reach out to broadcasting, event, post-production and stage specialists in India and provide them with better appreciation of the power of projection mapping and how it can add value to their events and installations.”
Besides the dazzling visuals at the booth, Christie and its valued partners BARTKRESA design Inc., Modern Stage Service, Video Design and Audio Design will deliver two consecutive presentations titled The Imminent Merging of Lighting with Video Technology – Now and the Way Forward and Across India: 1,200 Holographic Shows in 32 days. Behind the Scenes of the Campaign Shows and Technology respectively at the Palm Conference & Seminar 2014, Hall 1, International Lounge on May 29. For the latter, the emphasis will be on the making of 1,200 holographic projection shows using close to 200 Christie Roadster Series projectors for Shri Narendra Modi’s recent electoral campaign that took place across India in a span of 32 days, setting a new record for the greatest number of simultaneous broadcasts.
“Palm Expo has grown to become one of the most anticipated events for the most talented and creative individuals from India’s broadcast, event, postproduction and stage industries to come together and share their ideas and experiences,” said Lin Yu, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific. “As a regular exhibitor at this event, we’re proud and thrilled to be able to showcase our cutting edge projection solutions that leading rental stagers can confidently invest in for their reliability and unmatched features.”
