CHARLESTON, WV – Monster Media 3D illuminated the façade of West Virginia’s capitol building with a 3-D projection telling the state’s history. The projection experience was held in conjunction with the celebration of the state’s sesquicentennial, or 150 year, anniversary.

More details from Monster Media 3D (www.monstermedia.net):

Monster Media 3D partnered with the West Virginia Sesquicentennial Commission to develop an attraction that would share the state’s history and most famous assets with Charleston visitors from June 20-22. The 3-D projection had more than 80,000 viewers during its three-night run, not including those via social media.

The Capitol’s façade served as the canvas for the projection, which featured custom-designed 3-D animation sequences and graphics specifically mapped to every column, window and groove on the building’s surface. The result was content that looked like it was literally flying, dancing and moving across the building.

Monster Media 3D created content that included depictions of the state’s first settlers, its involvement in the Civil War and the New River Gorge Bridge. The show also featured digital white water rafters going down the New River, rock climbers scaling the building, a train carrying famous West Virginia-made products and even a special appearance by Abraham Lincoln.

The content was seamlessly choreographed to a West Virginia-specific audio track, including bluegrass from local artists to create a show that audiences wouldn’t soon forget. To seamlessly display the content, Monster Media 3D used six Barco HDF-W26 projectors to provide crisp images and deep colors at high resolutions, further enhancing the 3-D effect.

“When people are captivated like they were in West Virginia, they will never forget the experience,” said Jack Hattingh, chief creative officer for Monster Media 3D. “This is important and a crucial factor to why building projections are here to stay. It is most certainly a useful tool for brand building and extremely entertaining at that.”
