ABU DHABI, UAE – JM Rental Ltd. provided LED displays for IDEX 2011, a major defense and security related event held in late February. Working with Showtec Communications PTE LTD for RedFilo Event LLC, JM Rental provided 696 panels of Lighthouse Technologies 7 mm visual pitch R7-ER as a backdrop for the daytime opening ceremony for the 10th annual event, which was attended by more than 1,000 VIPs including Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE.

The LED displays were configured as two sets of wide screens on a tracking system which could move apart. The R7-ER panels for the two widescreen displays were each configured as 30 panels wide by 8 panels high (30.48 meters by 6.10 meters) for a combined width of 60.96 meters, with a total pixel resolution of 3,840 x 384 pixels. In addition, two other sets of I-Mag screens supported the event's visuals, each measuring 12 panels wide by 9 panels high (12.19 meters by 6.86 meters).

The screens were controlled by Barco's Encore Presentation System, along with Dataton's Watchout Multi Display Software provided by Showtec Communications. The hour-long ceremony kicked off the five-day event, where 50,000 visitors from 53 countries assembled within 108,000 square meters of space at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) to view the offerings from 1,060 exhibitors and 32 country pavilions. The show had the largest turnout since the show's inception in 1993. JM Rental had also provided LED displays for the 9th IDEX, held in 2009.

The opening ceremony featured spectacles including an air show with helicopters, fighter jets and skydivers, and with stunt bikers and marching bands on the ground. Then, the UAE military lined up with the flags of all participating nations and ended the ceremony with pyrotechnics.

"It has been such an honor for us to be part of the largest tri-service defense exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa region two times consecutively," said Kenneth Yip of JM Rental, one of only a few companies capable of supplying the LED screens on a scale needed for the ceremony. "Entering the Middle East Market is not as easy as it seems, and we are proud to have entered the Middle East with a project of this scale and importance, thanks to the tremendous support and excellent working relationships between us, our partners and the manufacturer."
