WASHINGTON, DC  – Live event production company DWP Live created a never before seen projection display for the UN’s World Humanitarian Day.  The music video, which was taped Aug. 10 at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in front of a live audience, featured a performance by Beyoncé, who dedicated “I Was Here” in recognition of World Humanitarian Day.

DWP projected onto the largest-ever concave screen, which wrapped around the audience.  Rose Brand manufactured the 1,000 pound, 224 ft. X 46 ft. screen, which was fabricated with Rose Brand’s blackout lining and installed in the General Assembly Hall by Rose Brand riggers and the Local 1 stagehands.

Lifelike images surrounded Beyoncé as she sang, with the projection screen as the only element on stage.  The screen was manufactured and installed by Rose Brand and managed by Super Uber.

“Using this projection technology allowed us to create a visual that’s lifelike and stunning, both for those in the live audience and home television viewers,” said Danny Whetstone, lead projection engineer and president of DWP Live.  “A large scale projection of this type has never been created in this way, and products by Barco and coolux make such magic possible.  It was an honor to lend our talents to UN’s World Humanitarian Day.”

DWP, contracted by SuperUber for this project, createdz; a plan, aspect ratios, pixel counts, projector placement information and custom rasters. The company conducted three site surveys to gather and confirm data, and supplied a team of projectionist and programmers to create the display.  A video spanning DWP Live’s work on the project is available online.

“A projection of this size and scope typically takes several months to develop and implement, and we did it in a little more than three weeks from our first conversation to the show taping,” said Whetstone.  “Our team specializes in innovative, technically advanced projections, and it’s especially meaningful when it’s for a good cause.”

World Humanitarian Day, held annually Aug. 19 on the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the UN headquarters, recognizes those who face danger and adversity to help others.
