MONTREAL – Christie®, a leader in creating and delivering the world’s best visual and audio experiences, is providing projectors for Expo 67 Live, a celebration to honor the 50th anniversary of the Montreal World’s Fair, produced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). From September 18 to 30, Christie Roadster HD20K-J 3DLP® projectors will light up Esplanade de la Place des Arts to broadcast images onto the giant multi-screen installation to immerse viewers in the cinematic environment and relive Expo 67.

More details from Christie (www.christiedigital.com):

Created by multi-disciplinary artist Karine Lanoie-Brien (K), Expo 67 Live was produced by René Chénier, NFB executive producer for special projects. The unique and innovation installation by K draws inspiration from the eclectic films from the original Expo 67 to tell a cinematic story across more than 435 linear feet of screen space, with a height of up to 52 feet. The installation is complemented by 43 surround sound speakers to showcase almost 26 songs from the time of the original event.

“Everything was so dynamic and growing in Expo 67 – discovery of architecture, construction, culture – evolving at such a pace that culminated in the wonder of the exposition that attracted more than 51 million visitors over a period of six months,” said Chénier. “We decided to recreate that mood and ambiance with Expo 67 Live. Taking more than 1,000 pieces of archival footage from NFB, archives in Canada and Europe, together with K we’ve created a 27-minute, high-resolution panoramic show for visitors in a spatialized reality.”

“Even though there are challenges – the variety of projection surfaces, a limited time table, weather conditions, and public space restrictions with various height considerations – we had no concerns with the Christie projectors because they allow us to be very creative in this outdoor venue,” said Benoit Lemieux, senior consultant and general manager, CREOS, the firm that assisted NFB in setting up the installation of Expo 67 Live. “Choosing Christie projectors was very easy based on our past live venue projector experiences to provide great stability and performance. We had great fiber optic communication with the projectors even though they were positioned out of easy access. We have complete confidence in the performance of the Christie projectors.”

“Christie is extremely proud to be called upon to assist the NFB. Together we enlisted the support of long-time partner TransQuébec that was able to bring the NFB’s concepts to reality. This will be a magnificent show celebrating this wonderful event,” said Dave Muscat, VP of Enterprise Solutions, Americas.

“It’s an honor to support Expo 67 Live with award-winning Christie projectors in the 50th commemoration of the historic exhibition,” said Kathryn Cress, vice president, global & corporate marketing, Christie. “Expo 67 was a vibrant time in Montreal for the attendees. Christie projectors are designed to make memorable imagery, such as Expo 67 Live, come alive with the most natural color accuracy and stability for flawless high resolution performance.”
