PASADENA, CA — Pete’s Big TVs is providing visual support for the 33rd annual An Evening of the Stars benefit for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). The show was taped at the Pasadena Civic Center Aug. 14 and will be broadcast on the BET Network on Sept. 25.

Working with production designer Anton Goss, Pete’s Big TVs’ Guy Benjamin said the video company’s role was to outfit four different projection areas of the set with gear, including Barco 20K and Barco 12K projectors, a Toshiba 6mm high resolution LED screen and an Elation 20mm LED medium-resolution video flex screen. Benjamin headed the Pete’s Big TVs crew, which included Matt Ellar and Jody Lane.

Goss, who also served as production designer for a number of TV competition shows – most recently, NBC’s The Voice – also worked with Pete’s Big TVs on the mtvU Woodie Awards earlier this year. The design team for this year’s UNCF Telethon, themed “Educating Our Future,” also included Dave Edwards (art director) and LD Otis Howard.

Unlike previous UNCF Telethons broadcast annually since 1979, the 2011 event was designed with a musical variety show format, with video segments highlighted some of the students UNCF supports each year.

The new format also helped UNCF to attract a lineup of stars including Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, Patti LaBelle, Jill Scott, Ledisi, Marsha Ambrosius, Estelle, Musiq Soulchild and Miguel. TV and film celebrities made special appearances as well.
