LONDON – To promote British retailer VERY’s Spring 2016 fashion collection, Transition Video designed and fabricated a 5m x 5m LED cube clad with LED panels on three sides. Through their ad agency, St Luke’s, VERY turned to PrettyBird for creative content. Working with PrettyBird’s Dori Oskowitz, Mark Calvert from RES used Avolites’ Ai S6 server to pixel map and play back the digital content, which included a fast moving array of dancers surrounding the cube.

A new advert for online British retailer VERY’s Spring 2016 fashion collection has gone live, featuring an LED cube perfectly pixel mapped and powered by an Avolites Ai S6 server.
VERY, through their ad agency, St Luke’s, commissioned London-based creative think tank PRETTYBIRD to conceptualize the commercial, which features a fast moving array of dancers surrounding the cube. The LED cube glows in bright neon pink colors to reflect the VERY branding and displays a variety of Spring-related visuals.
Ai expert RES worked closely with PRETTYBIRD’s Dori Oskowitz, who directed the advert, through the initial stages, creating technical renders at pitch stage. Once the job was commissioned, RES took on the role of advisor for all technical aspects of pixel mapping and media playback for the cube in pre-production and onsite.
“As the show included three unique HD outputs for three sides of the LED cube plus one SD Barco Versa®TUBE output, the Ai S6 server was the best solution,” says Mark Calvert from RES. “We worked with the S6 as it enabled us to have enough headroom in the system in-case of onsite creative and technical changes, which often happen at corporate shoots. With Joe Dunkley as lead Ai Tech we were covered on all bases!”
The S6 is designed to output four 4K output streams and is fitted with two Intel i7 processors running in parallel.
The visuals were created by PRETTYBIRD’s Weirdcore, with pixel mapping consultation from RES.
Transition Video designed and fabricated the 5m x 5m LED cube, which was clad with LED panels on three sides: left, right and the top and outlined with a ‘neon glow light source’, provided by the linear LED Barco Versa®TUBE fixtures.
The LED screens and linear LED fixtures were all driven by the Ai S6.
“This was a great project to work on – designing an LED cube structure that would support all three screens was a challenge, but with the help of Lite Structures we came up with a cost effective solution,” says Rhodri Shaw, Director of Transition Video. “Working with the Ai S6 server was great – we had pictures on screens in minutes. It really was plug and play!”
