SAN DIEGO — AV Concepts, the nation’s leading holographic and immersive technology provider, has partnered with Dollywood theme park and Fred Blurton Productions to integrate holographic technology into its first production of Dollywood’s A Christmas Carol, as part of its annual Smoky Mountain Christmas presented by Humana celebration. For the theme park’s recurring show, AV Concepts assisted Dollywood Entertainment’s creative team in developing four holographic characters — Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Future, Present and Past — with holographic Dolly Parton starring as the Ghost of Christmas Past.

“The many uses for this technology continue to adapt and grow,” said Nick Smith, president of AV Concepts. “In this case, a revered and very busy entertainer can now perform for fans on an ongoing basis, which is an incredible technological feat and opens the door for future innovations across multiple industries.”

The illusions were created using highly tensioned holographic foil, customized lighting effects and advanced high definition projectors. AV Concepts worked in cooperation with Dollywood Entertainment’s creative team to develop the holographic performances and build the staging structure. The stage was then integrated within the existing artistic design.

“Our challenge in creating Dollywood’s adaptation of such a well-known work was to do something different and exciting for our guests that would allow this production to stand out from the many others,” said Dollywood Entertainment Director Paul T. Couch. “The holograms afford Dollywood the opportunity to mount a truly unique production and, at the same time, enable us to include Dolly as a cast member which is another wonderfully unique aspect of our show.”
