ATHENS – The ARK Festival, now in its third year, took place Sept. 10-11, hosting 14 renowned and emerging artists, including Lucian Kilaidonis, Nick Portokaloglou, The Maraveyas Ilegal, the Burger Project with Takim, the Tabby Sporakia, Matoula Zamani and Angry Birds and many other acts.

The ARK Festival 2012, the largest ever, was held in Technopolis, a renown industrial museum and a major cultural venue of the City of Athens, Greece, in the neighborhood of Gazi, next to Keramikos and close to the Acropolis. For this special event, the Technopolis became a lively and interactive park with dozens of parallel events of cultural, social, sports and educational nature to complement the musical experience.

The festival took place on two distinct stages, the ‘Ark’ and the ‘Angel.’ There were D.T.S. lighting products in the rig: 16 JACK compact moving heads were placed on the Ark stage, suspended from a curved truss encircling the stage, with 8 DELTA 10R LED moving head wall washers hung to a truss set above the stage. Electron handled the lighting installation, and the event was produced by Archangel, Athens.

The stage project and lighting design of the ARK festival were made for the third consecutive year by the Lighting Art Team: George Tellos, lighting design; Spiros Kourkoumelis, programmer ‘Ark’ stage; Panos Tsevrenis, programmer ‘Angel’ stage; Irene Samartzi, CAD and rendering drawings; Stella Kaltsou, designers assistant; and Kostis Mousikos, lighting assistant.

LD George Tellos said, “I’m excited and fascinated (by) the brightness and the beam quality! I think it’s the only fixture in the market at the moment that can focus in hard edge so precise, and at the same time to have a lumen output in 40m like a follow spot. And all this with less than 200 watts! Although I know the JACKs from the indoor shows, in the outdoors they perform even better.”
