LONDON — LD Ian “Scampi” Bintliff is known for making even a modestly-sized rig look larger than it actually is, and the Bang tour for U.K. rockers Thunder, staged in a wide variety of venues, was no exception. Blackburn-based HSL once again supplied lighting equipment and crew, managed by Howard Dean. The full set used four 5-meter pre-rigged “fingers” fanning out from a central point in the back. Each finger was loaded with 24 PARs, separated by three 2-meter-by-three-meter triangular pods made from 12-inch truss. Each pod was rigged with four Robe ColorSpot 575E AT moving lights, four JTE PixelLine LED battens and a string of ACLs. The pods moved in and out during the show.
The stage floor needed a clear deck to allow for the band’s energetic performance, so floor-mounted fixtures were positioned behind the backline, upstage of the drummer. These included an additional string of ACLs and two 8-lite blinders.
The front truss was also made from a standard run of pre-rig truss, complete with eight bars of 6 PARs and four blinders on the downstage rail for audience blasts.
HSL’s crew included Rory MacKay, who took care of all the rigging and operated the moving trusses, and Ed Marriot on dimmers. Bintliff used an Avolites Diamond 4 console to generate the classic rock ‘n’ roll looks for the show.
