Brazil’s Luzes de Sao Paulo Lit by Projectors

SAO PAULO, Brazil — The edifices of the buildings in Brazil’s capital were animated by Christie projectors during the city’s Luzes de Sao Paulo (Lights of Sao Paulo) from Dec. 12-28, turning the landmarks into big screens for HD multimedia images of urban and Christmas themes. Inspired by the festival of lights in Lyons, France, the Luzes de Sao Paulo reunited Christie with ON Projecoes (www.onprojecoes.com), a Christie dealer and major AV solutions provider in South America.  Earlier this year, Christie also partnered with ON Projecoes to project images on a 100-foot diameter Ferris wheel near Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach.

“Christie provided Luzes de Sao Paulo with the brightest and most compact projectors in Latin America,” says Tieres Tavares, ON Projecoes sales/marketing manager for Miami.  “The people of Sao Paulo saw stunning images projected on the city’s iconic buildings from 8 p.m. until midnight — it was amazing.”

The Sao Paulo project was designed and led by Mix Brand Experience in a joint venture with Iluminite.  “We brought cutting-edge technology to perform a show of monumental proportions," said Marco Scabia, managing partner in Mix Brand Experience.

One of the main attractions of Luzes de Sao Paulo was the Federal Justice Building, adjacent to the Modern Art Museum of Sao Paulo (MASP). Three Christie Roadie 25K LE projectors using DLP techology displayed a Christmas story on the Justice Building. That display also featured selections form the museum’s art collection, shown in motion with special effects.  The venue also showcased a holiday theme for Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Three Christie CP2000-XB projectors were deployed at the Matarazzo Building, shown here, in a tribute to the immigrants who helped build the city.  With a native resolution of 2K (2048×1080 pixels) and DLP Cinema technology, the Christie CP2000-XB is fully digital.
