Visions Lighting Helps Create Memorable Bass Pod Stage Experience at EDC Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — The 2013 Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, produced by Insomniac Events, drew 90,000 per day for their 3-day visual and audio music festival June 21-23, 2013.  Visions Lighting was there to build and produce the Bass Pod Stage, one of several dynamic production and performance areas featuring the world’s top DJs in the EDM arena.

More details from Visions Lighting (www.visionslighting.com):

Visions Lighting provided the one-of-a-kind truss and stage structure, lighting, and video features for this surprise standout at the festival.  Planning began several months prior to the event with a partial pre-build taking place at Vision’s warehouse in Brea, CA. to custom measure, size and fit the intricate fabric pieces that would skin the structure and to make sure every detail was worked out prior to trucking the elements to Las Vegas.

“We wanted the fabric to be just right, I enlisted our friends at Sew What, Inc. for the job, the results were excellent,” comments Todd Roberts, President of Visions Lighting, “We spent a lot of time on selecting the correct fabric.  It needed to be breathable, and look great in both the day and night.”  This Vision’s custom build used 400 pieces of truss with extremely tight tolerances and custom 1/2″, 6″, 7″ and 10″ spacers and custom 20.5″ swivel plates to put it all together.

The structure was the brainchild of Stephen Lieberman of SJ Lighting who approached Roberts with the below sketch with his vision for the stage.  “I was so excited to get this conceptualization and get to work, I love this stuff, it is the best part of my job,” beamed Roberts.  The Visions team got to work building the staging and truss structure design, obtaining engineering and structural sign offs prior to Lieberman designing and adding in the lighting and video elements that would complete the plan for the stage.

The Visions team arrived in Las Vegas eight days prior to the event’s opening night to assemble the structure, lighting and video elements.  Led by production manager Colin Johnson, the crew worked daily from 6pm to 6am to avoid the scorching heat of mid-day Las Vegas.

“As soon as the sun came up each day, we would wrap it up, I guess that’s what we should expect being hired by Insomniac,” laughed Roberts.   “We have been overwhelmed with positive feedback on the Bass Pod Stage, which we affectionately call the Space Burger,” joked Roberts.  “People want to know how we plan to top it.  I know our team is up for the challenge and we look forward to the opportunity to do just that.”
