NEW YORK – For the 2012 production of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, celebrating the 85th Anniversary of the Rockettes performing in New York, show producers turned to Tait’s rental fleet to produce dynamic, yet sustainable scenic and staging elements. Having worked with Radio City on various shows since 2003, Tait had a proven history of doing just that. For this year’s show, Tait developed a new, custom-made video wall that showcased the show’s video content. Tait also provided full video/motion integration that allowed the system to track an image, along with the motion of the screens, to give them the appearance of moving through a continuous video image.
Among the elements Tait provided were: downstage lifts, downstage turntables, Santa hatches and a custom video wall.
The video wall is powered by Tait’s Navigator control system. It consists of six LED screens, provided by others. The screens, at 18 ft wide and 14 ft tall, are capable of individual tracking and motion for three separate columns. Navigator provides real-time feedback of the video wall’s location, to guarantee that all content is synchronized with the screens’ motion. The screens are also programmed with anti-swing technology that allows the 1-ton wall to move at high speeds, while still maintaining control.
