CHICAGO – The confetti units provided by Strictly FX were a part of history when President Barack Obama was elected to a second term on Nov. 6, 2012. “It was an honor to be part of an electoral celebration that included over 15,000 people at McCormick Place in Chicago, but also included a worldwide television audience of millions,” notes Ted Maccabee, Visuals Director and Partner at Strictly FX.
The Strictly FX team, headed by Grant Sellers and including Gary Stephens and Matt Schlager, featured 11 Strictly FX proprietary AC Confetti Blowers and 8 CO2powered Strictly FX Confetti Cobra units. The AC Confetti Blowers were overhead, while the Confetti Cobra units were below. Both released festive and environmentally friendly biodegradable red, white and blue confetti. “The Confetti Cobra units were a perfect fit for this event; they’re a more efficient way to lift the confetti, are low jam units and provide an amazing amount of dispersion,” says Maccabee.
The Strictly FX Confetti Cobra units were actually located under the first family, and provided the perfect atmosphere for the celebration. “When Strictly FX is involved, it always exceeds your expectations. You never say ‘nice try,’” explains Lighting Designer Robert Peterson, who called the cue for the airborne units. The ground units were cued by John Liipfert of C3, the firm that produced the event; other production partners from C3 include Kamal Soliman and Brandon Sossamon, as well as John Bahnick of Upstaging.
