Among his many credits includes shows such as Assassins, CompanySweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Sunday in the Park With George, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Into the Woods. Sondheim, who had not been ill,  had just celebrated Thanksgiving with friends at his home in Roxbury, CT. Sondheim was born March 22, 1930, in New York City.

His many honors include nine Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, an Oscar, and eight Grammy Awards. Also, the Henry Miller Theater in New York City was renamed for him in 2010.

You can learn more about Sondheim and his musical legacy in this obituary from the New York Times.

In 2020, Patti LuPone, star of the Broadway revival of Company, spoke with musical theater legend Stephen Sondheim for CBS Sunday Morning, to discuss his craft, his favorite character, and his college acting career.
