It is with great sadness that Stage Directions has learned of the death of legendary theatrical composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim at the age of 91. Among his many credits includes shows such as Assassins, Company, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Sunday in the Park With George, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Into the Woods. Sondheim, who had not been ill, had just celebrated Thanksgiving with friends at his home in Roxbury, CT. Sondheim was born March 22, 1930, in New York City.
His many honors include nine Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, an Oscar, and eight Grammy Awards. Also, the Henry Miller Theater in New York City was renamed for him in 2010.
