NEW YORK – The Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) has awarded 36 IATSE Local One members with its Rigger – Theatre Certification. In related news, to keep the ETCP examinations current, the ETCP volunteers appointed as “subject matter experts” (SME’s) have written new questions for the Theatre Rigging examination. ETCP is set to launch these questions Sept. 1, 2012. The test administration fee for groups of 10 or more will be waived for the month of September.

NEW YORK – The Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) has awarded 36 International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E.) Local One members with its Rigger – Theatre Certification.
“Local One is excited and proud of our success in the great number of our members who have recently been certified as ETCP Technicians,” said Local One I.A.T.S.E. President James J. Claffey, Jr. “We believe that this achievement demonstrates our commitment to educating and training our members to provide the best service possible to our many employers, as well as enforcing, enhancing and protecting the traditional jurisdiction of Local One.”
Claffey added, “Congratulations and thanks are also in order to the Trustees of Local One’s Training, Education and Technology Fund, Brother Paul Dean, Jr., and Education Committee Chairman for supporting, funding and coordinating all of our newly established initiatives and objectives.”
“We are extremely proud to add some of Broadway’s finest theatre riggers to the list of ETCP Certified Technicians,” said Paul Dean, Jr., who helped organize a four-day training course prior to the exam administration. “Our members who are ETCP Certified also include technicians from Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Opera House and various television studios who work throughout Local One’s jurisdiction which includes Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, and Westchester and Putnam Counties.”
Eddie Raymond, Chair of the PLASA North American Board, said, “Once again Local One has demonstrated that they are leaders in the theatrical industries. By hosting the ETCP Theatre Rigger Certification Exam and successfully certifying 36 members, Local One has set the standard for theatre locals throughout the Alliance. As someone involved for over 10 years in this initiative I am particularly proud that Local One has embraced the ETCP certification program as a way to demonstrate the commitment to safety and skill of their membership.”
Each of these Certified Theatre Riggers is now listed on the ETCP website at http://etcp.plasa.org. ETCP Certified Technicians can be identified on the jobsite by requesting to see their ETCP ID card that includes their picture, date of certification and most importantly, area(s) of specialty.
To keep the ETCP examinations fresh and current, the Subject Matter Experts have written new questions for the Theatre Rigging examination. ETCP is set to launch these questions Sept. 1, 2012. To gather the statistical data necessary to properly score the exam, it is essential that as many Theatre Riggers as possible are tested during September. To further this initiative, the test administration fee of $675 for groups of 10 or more will be waived for September. Candidate application fees will still apply and score reports will be delayed during this time.
