MILWAUKEE, WI — The crew for Summerfest ’08, which takes place at the Marcus Amphitheater in Henry Maier Festival Park along the lakefront, staged a followspot showdown this year. The winning instruments — Robert Juliat Super Korrigan 1200W and Victor 1800W followspots — were used for shows attracting up to 25,000 attendees per performance and more than a million people over the course of the summer.

“Followspots can sometimes seem like they require three hands,” said Marty Lazarus, president of theatrical dealer Chicago Spotlight, Inc.  “You need to operate the iris, move it around and change the color.” With the Victors, Lazarus said, you “don’t need three hands.  What’s more, they’ve got that famous ‘Juliat’ perfectly even field.” He also commended their combination of low weight, compact dimensions and significant light output.

The Robert Juliat Victor 1159 1800W followspot houses a double condenser optical system, a closing mechanical dimmer, a six-way color changer system equipped with removable filter frames and a closing iris with backplate follower in a removable cassette. Lazarus said the brighter Robert Juliat lamp holder lets operators “lock in lamp alignment without any adjustment,” and that changing the Victor lamp is a relatively simple process.
