ESTA Foundation Announces Training Updates

BOWIE, MD — The ESTA Foundation said that its Fall Protection and Rescue session recently held at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts here was attended by close to 40. The attendees spent two days with arena rigging specialist Rocky Paulson and MSA representative Morgan Neff.  Along with plans for similar events later this year, with dates and locations yet to be announce, the ESTA Foundation issued a reminder about other upcoming training events. Here are the details:

The 4 Ks of Stage Rigging
Presenter:  Jay O. Glerum (*ETCP-AT)
Date: May 29-31, 2009
Location:  Village Theatre at Cherry  Hill, 50400 Cherry  Hill Road, Canton, Mich.  (Detroit Area)  
Sponsors:  The Joint Training Initiative of The ESTA Foundation and USITT in conjunction with Eastern Michigan  University
Cost:  $390 Non-Members; $330 for members of ESTA, USITT, IATSE; $150.00 for Students receiving college credit.

This three-day session will cover Liability, Forces and Reactions (The Physics of Rigging), Types and Designs of Hardware, Proper Operation, and Inspection/Maintenance Issues. Also included will be discussions of Motorized Rigging, Fire Curtain Rigging, and Rigging Math.

Eos Console Training
Presenters:  Anne Valentino, Eos Project Manager and Steve Aldrich, ETC Field Project Coordinator
Date:  June 1-2, 2009
Location:  Electronic Theatre Controls, Middleton Wis.
Sponsors:  The USITT / ESTA Joint Training Initiative and Electronic Theatre Controls.
Total Session Cost:  $185 – Registration for this course is limited to members of ESTA, IATSE and USITT.
 
Attendee should have prior experience with automated luminaries and a general familiarity with lighting consoles (Eos experience is not necessary). In addition, they should have working knowledge of DMX 512 communication protocol, fixture addressing and patching.

The FUNdamentals of Electricity!

Richard Cadena, ETCP Certified Entertainment Electrician and ETCP Recognized Trainer, is a freelance lighting designer, lighting consultant, Authorized WYSIWYG Trainer, LD Assistant trainer, author and editor of PLSN. Cadena regularly conducts entertainment technician training sessions around the country on a wide range of technical topics.
