LONDON — Dancing on Ice, a weekly British TV show broadcast on ITV, draws about 9.5 million viewers with celebrities who compete in front of a panel of judges. LD Dave Davey, gaffer Dave Hallet and console operators Bill Peachment and John Ford control the lighting and projection via two Compulite Vector Green consoles. Peachment’s console is used to control all the set and effects lighting as well as the Hippotizer media server; Ford’s desk is for the fixtures lighting the performers and others in the studio, controlling a mixture of conventional gear and automated wash and profile instruments.
“Coming from a background of controlling conventional/people lighting on the Galaxy, I’ve taken to the vector very quickly,” said Ford. “It’s ideal for this kind of cue intensive show. I use palettes extensively, and I’ve found the logic of the desk very easy to get used to, so now during a live show, I’m concentrating on the lighting, and not on how the desk works.”
"The Vector system works very well on this series for all the usual reasons of reliability and speed of programming,” Peachment said. “The addition of remote wings to my system has been very useful for programming the desk from different positions using wireless Ethernet to enable me to move around easily. The Ethernet and Eport system also make wiring and back up simple on this large system."
