MIAMI — When you’re dealing with a TV reality show set’s limited trim height, size matters. Carlos Collina, LD for Univision’s reality TV show, Nuestra Belleza Latina, needed a compact fixture that could deliver a big look. Working with Rick Rudolph of Stage Equipment and Lighting, he chose Coemar Infinity S Series lights for the job. “On this particular job site,” Rudolph said, “the trim was just under 25 feet. Carlos, along with lighting director John Daniels, had needed a product that would provide the functionality of a big gun, but in a smaller package.”
The intensity, color and compatibility with the set design made the fixtures attracted both Colina and Daniels to the Infinity S fixtures on the first demo, Rudolph said. The crew used 122 of the fixtures in all, with “essentially no issues. They complemented the set and venue, as well as blended very well with the Coemar iWash Halos we were using.”
Features for the Coemar Infinity Spot S include a zoom range from 35 degrees down to 9 degrees, CMY color mixing, rotating and indexing prism effects. The Coemar Infinity Wash S light offers a zoom range from 36 degrees down to 6 degrees, a CTO filter, 360 degree beam shaper and moon flower effect. CMY color mixing with 5 colors + open are included.
Rudolph noted that the fluid nature of the show’s run-through made the design and lighting “an extremely difficult endeavor,” with “lots of audience participation, so was handled at times very much on-the-fly.” The challenge, he said, was to provide a flexible environment for the constantly-changing camera angles for the show, which focuses on the unscripted actions of competing beauty pageant contestants.
“From a supply standpoint, the quality of the Coemar Infinity S lights, out-of-the-box, was just amazing,” Rudolph said. “Nuestra Belleza Latina’s production aspect had proven to be, at certain moments, appearing as a free-for-all. But that’s the excitement the producers are looking for…and Coemar’s Spot S luminaires are what really made it happen.”
