BEVERLY HILLS, CA — ARRI announced that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will recognize Erwin Melzner, Volker Schumacher and Timo Müller with an AMPAS award for the development of the ARRIMAX 18/12 HMI on Feb. 7. ARRI also noted that this is the first time since 2004 that an AMPAS award has been given for an advancement in lighting equipment.
Also known as the Sci Tech Oscars, the awards ceremony will take place at the Beverly Wilshire hotel. ARRI said this will be the 15th award the company has won for scientific and technical products, and the company’s first such award for one of its lighting products.
The ARRIMAX, used most often for feature films, commercials and TV, combines the variable beam spread of a Fresnel with the light output of a PAR, and uses a novel reflector concept for beam control that eliminates the need for spread lenses.
They company said the instrument can operate at 18,000 watts with a cooling system and housing design that makes it safe to touch.
