Do you know a student who loves theater but isn’t sure where they fit in? The American Theatre Wing is pleased to partner with Design Action, which officially launched Springboard To Design 2022 – a program that explores the process of theatrical collaboration and the many opportunities and career paths in the field of American theater design for public high school students from historically underrepresented populations in the theater industry.

About Springboard to Design
Led by renowned members of the contemporary theater in the heart of NYC, the Springboard to Design curriculum includes workshops, seminars, and attending performances – on Broadway and off. Instructors will consist of award-winning artists who will create a collaborative environment for students, as they explore costume, set, lighting, projection, and sound design.
What We’re Looking For
Springboard to Design aims to provide students with access to theater education they may not otherwise receive. Therefore, no prior experience is required to participate. Applicants with an interest in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- Sewing
- Fashion
- Drawing
- Painting
- Building
- Creating
- Storytelling
- …and more!
It’s Easy to Apply
The application process is simple and designed to be easy and straightforward. In addition to basic contact information that can be filled out in a matter of minutes, submissions require the following simple materials:
- An Introduction Video
- Does not have to be professionally recorded
- An original piece of visual or aural art
- This can be anything the student has created – no guidelines!
