The annual star- studded event, hosted by Wendy Raquel Robinson and Tank, will be televised on Bounce Sun. Feb. 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET. and features moving tributes and amazing musical performances
Honorees for the evening consisted of MC Lyte, Robert Townsend, JD McCray, Tim King, Rodney Jerkins, Tip “T.I.” Harris and Dapper Dan.
The evening featured performances from GRAMMY® Award Platinum recording artist Ashanti, GRAMMY® Award-winner India.Arie, rappers Da Brat, Lil’ Mama and YoYo and Keyshia Cole.
In his eighth year of designing the lighting for the awards, Mark Carver crafted a contemporary look that would compliment the video screen and video content heavy scenic elements, all while accounting for the dignity and glamour of the Trumpet Awards.
“George (Buddy) Lunn served as TV Gaffer, Brian Jenkins was the LD moving light board operator and Tony Fransen acted as Media Content Board Operator,” Carver said. “All were very crucial creative assets to the team.”
Bandit Lites supplied more than 180 lighting fixtures including GLP X4 and GLP X4S, Claypaky B-EYE K20 fixtures, Robe BMFLs, Robe Pointes, Solaris Flares and two grandMA 2 consoles for control.
“I used the BMFL for overhead texture, patterns and color and back light for the various artist,” explained Carver. “The B-EYES supplied general color toning and air effects from overhead, while the Robe Pointes were used for hard beam effects. The X4S supplied camera eye-candy and effects and the X4 fixtures were my audience wash.”
“We are very proud of our association with the Trumpet Awards and, of course, any opportunity to work with Mark is a sincere pleasure,” said Bandit Lites Vice President Mike Golden. “Mark brought in an all-star cast to support this show and through his leadership the project was a complete success. I look forward to this event each year and my hat’s off to Michael Johnson and his production staff for making this job operate at such a high level.”
With a tight timeframe for load in and rehearsal, Bandit Lites worked to ensure that the rig was fully prepped to give a streamlined set up. Bandit’s crew for the Trumpet Awards included Chris Noll and Ty Veneziano with additional support coming from Project Manager Don Lockridge.
“Bandit was great,” Carver said. “Mike Golden and Project Manager Don Lockridge provided a system that met spec and was delivered well prepped for load in. Ty and Chris acted as show techs and loaded in the system and kept it 100 percent for the entire run.”
