Despite a November chill that turned patches of green a frosty white in the pre-dawn hours on Nov. 17, the sun quickly warmed Rhodes Ranch Golf Club in Las Vegas for the 2022 PLSN/FOH Parnelli Classic golf tournament.
PLSN/FOH’s Terry Lowe and Greg Gallardo welcomed close to 100 players to the event, which kicked off with an 8 a.m. shotgun start with a big assist from main sponsor IntelliEvent. Other sponsors included 3G, 4Wall, AES (Advanced Entertainment Services), Chauvet Professional, Claypaky/Group 1440, CPR Tent & Events, Elation Professional, Encompass Event Group, Liberty Press Nevada, Main Light, Solotech and ROE Visual.
The team from Main Light went home with the top trophy (and bragging rights) for first place in the tournament, followed by CPR Tent & Events in second and IntelliEvent placing third.
Other prizes were bestowed for Longest Drive (Steve Davey), Closest to the Pin (Ed Wannebo), and Longest Putt (Russ Callahan), and raffle prizes included a golf bag, lessons from a PGA golf pro and a half-page ad in PLSN magazine.
While the tournament has secured its place as a not-to-be-missed networking opportunity on the Thursday prior to the big autumn trade show for lighting and sound pros, the 2023 LDI show, set for Nov. 12-14, shifts to a Sunday through Tuesday timetable.
Securing an entire golf course on a busy autumn Saturday might prove to be more difficult than renting the place out on a quieter Thursday. So will the PLSN/FOH Parnelli Classic be able to return in 2023?
Gallardo closed the ceremony by asking the crowd of attendees whether they might attend on a Saturday instead of a Thursday for next year’s tournament. Judging from their positive response (and Gallardo’s ability to swing a deal at least as well as a golf club), it’s a safe bet that the answer for 2023 will be an enthusiastic “Yes.”
