In the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, many artists, entertainment companies, and cultural institutions have been cutting ties with Russia, in support and solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. A number of acts have also been announcing the cancellation of dates and appearances in Russia, including Eric Clapton and The Killers.

Here are some of the statements that have been released:

Live Nation: Live Nation joins the world in strongly condemning Russias invasion of Ukraine. We will not promote shows in Russia, and we will not do business with Russia. Were in the process of reviewing our vendors so we can cease work with any and all Russian-based suppliers.”

Green Day: With heavy hearts, in light of current events we feel it is necessary to cancel our upcoming show in Moscow at Spartak Stadium. We are aware that this moment is not about stadium rock shows, its much bigger than that. But we also know that rock and roll is forever and we feel confident there will be a time and a place for us to return in the future. Refunds available at the point of purchase. Stay safe.”

Louis Tomlinson: “Due to the recent events in Ukraine, I have to sadly announce that my tour shows in Moscow and Kyiv are cancelled until further notice. The safety of my fans is my priority and my thoughts go out to the people of Ukraine and all those suffering from this needless war.”

Slipknot: “We had looked forward to reuniting with our fans in these incredible cities, coming back together after global lockdown. But we take this step in support of our community and in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, for whom the struggle continues, in a new and more terrible form. We also acknowledge that our Russian and Belarusian fans are overwhelmingly united with the Ukrainians in their fight for peace. The safety and well-being of our global families is, and always will be, our top priority.”

Imagine Dragons: “In light of recent events, we’re sad to announce our Russia and Ukraine shows are cancelled until further notice. Our thoughts are with Ukraine and all others suffering from this needless war.”

Franz Ferdinand: “The only reason for this is the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian state.”

Bjork: “In light of current events the bjork orchestral show in Moscow has been cancelled.”

My Chemical Romance: With deep regret, My Chemical Romance is cancelling our Ukraine and Russia shows in June, 2022.  We hope to be able to play for the fans there soon.”

AJR: “We are sad to announce that we will be cancelling our upcoming show in Russia. Thank you to our Russian fans who oppose their countrys unprovoked and criminal behavior. Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine. At this point, the best thing you can do is share ACCURATE info.”

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: “Have no choice but to cancel our shows in Russia and Ukraine which were due to take place this summer. Our thoughts and love go out to the brave people of Ukraine, their heroic leader, and all those suffering from this senseless war. Ukraine, we stand with you, and with all those in Russia who oppose this brutal act, and we pray that this madness is brought to a close soon.”

Yungblud:  “Im heartbroken to announce I will be cancelling my Russian shows scheduled for this summer. Heartbroken because I know the vicious and brutal acts of the Russian regime in Ukraine over the past week do not reflect the attitudes and ideals of the beautiful people who I have met in Russia in the past! My heart is with you – youve already shown such strength and determination, resisting this needless invasion. Everyone deserves to be the creator of their own destiny, rather than having it forced upon them by acts of war and aggression. Ukraine, I promise Ill come back as soon as I can!”

Iggy Pop:  on cancelling his appearances at this summer’s The Park Live Festival in Moscow, said In light of current events, this is necessary. Our thoughts are with the Ukrainians and all the brave people who oppose this violence and seek peace.”

Arts and Cultural organizations have also begun announcing severing partnerships with Russian organizations. The Royal Opera House in London has cancelled a residency by the Bolshoi Ballet planned for this summer. The Metropolitan Opera in New York City, which has had a producing partnership with the Bolshoi Theater, said it would no longer engage with performers or other institutions that have voiced support for Putin. Peter Gelb, the Mets general manager, said, While we believe strongly in the warm friendship and cultural exchange that has long existed between the artists and artistic institutions of Russia and the United States, we can no longer engage with artists or institutions that support Putin or are supported by him.” He noted that the Met would maintain this stance until “the invasion and killing has been stopped, order has been restored, and restitutions have been made.”

Movie Studios are also pulling plans for upcoming theatrical releases from Russia including Universal, Sony, Warner Bros., and Disney.
