KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE – Thousands of high school students around the country descended on the University of Tennessee for CHIC, a five day centering on worship, transformation and fun held by the Evangelical Covenant Church. Bandit Lites supplied the lighting for the main stage at Thompson-Bowling Arena where bands, speakers and worship leaders performed including For King and Country and Kari Jobe.

More details from Bandit (www.banditlites.com):

Lumina Design, headed by Production and Lighting Designers Daniel Smallbone and Matt Brewer, crafted a lighting design around a centerpiece comprised of automated LED walls that involved the branding for the event. With the video component offering numerous looks and forms, it was crucial the lighting was able to both support whatever look was on screen and supply extra depth and width.

“The most prominent lighting piece of the design was the 100’ wide x 50’ high lighting wall that lived 20’ behind stage,” explained Smallbone, “and this “wall of light”, as it was dubbed, consisted of 54 Elation Paladins.”

Since a major part of the budget went towards LED and automation, the lighting fixture budget had to be both economical but still impactful. Thanks to Bandit Lites expansive inventory and knowledgeable team, particularly Bandit client representative Shawn Lear, the Lumina Design team were able to utilize 250 fixtures that made the design both fully realized and true to budget.

In addition to the Paladins, Bandit Lites also supplied GLP X4, Chauvet Rogue RH1 Hybrids, Claypaky Sharpys, Robe Pointes, VL 3500 Washes, VL 3000 Spots, Martin MAC Auras, Lycian M2 spots, over one thousand feet of truss along with 67 motors operated by two custom motor control panels. A grandMA 2 Full console provided control.

“The Paladins had the highest impact,” explained Smallbone. “We were pleased with their brightness and color saturation, as well as with their placement. Providing depth behind stage, they played a part in every look, even when black!”

“The months of creative design efforts from Lumina Design, Daniel and Matt proved spectacular,” said Lear. “It has truly been a pleasure to work with Lumina Design through their exceptional renders and plots to get the job done. The thorough paper work allowed for Bandit to provide the precise prep for a time sensitive load-in.”

“Shawn and (Bandit Project Manager) Jimmy Hatten were super helpful from start to finish,” Smallbone commended. “Shawn even came up from Nashville to visit! We were very pleased with the commitment to excellence that was evident throughout the entire process. Special thanks to Adam McIntosh and his team – Steve “Moose” Strickland, Chuck Hastings, Joe DiLeo, Alex Becker and Jason Giaffo for their dedication onsite.”

“It’s great to see a show come together like this,” finished Lear. “The production staff headed by Ethan Pagliaro of Access Audio and Lumina Design had all the basis covered. As Technical Director and Production Manager, Ethan was amazing to work right from the start. Daniel Smallbone’s vision was big with saturated looks as he ran the show at FOH, and Matt Brewer provided Technical Direction and acted as Rigger for the event.  We are looking forward to joining up with Ethan Pagliaro and Lumina again.”
