Meet Samantha Weiser, The 2022 Howell Binkley Fellow

The Howell Binkley Fellowship Program, part of the Hemsley Lighting Programs, proudly announces its Fellow for the 2022-23 season, Samantha (Sam) Weiser (she/her). Weiser hails from Long Island, NY where she was exposed to theatre at a young age. Her passion for lighting design led her to the Long Island High School for the Arts and then to receive her BFA from the University of Michigan in 2020. The Global Theater Initiative (GTI), a partnership between Theatre Communications Group (TCG) and The Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics (The Lab) at Georgetown University, invites all theatres, individual artists, institutions, and audiences to celebrate the 61st annual World Theatre Day on March 27, 2022. Each year, a renowned theatre artist of world stature is invited by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) Worldwide to craft an international message to mark the global occasion. This year the International message has been written by U.S. director Peter Sellars. The U.S. World Theatre Day message has been given by Mildred Ruiz-Sapp and Steven Sapp, co-founders and core members of UNIVERSES, here’s a video of their address:

Applications for The Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative Due by March 31, 2022

The American Theater Wing is still accepting applications for the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative Training Scholarships. The training opportunities, which are aimed at middle and high school students (grades 6-11) cover a range of behind-the-scenes disciplines including stage management, lighting design, arts administration, and playwrighting to name a few, in addition to actors/performers.
