TCG Announces RESPOND Grantees for THRIVE! Uplifting Theatres of Color
Theatre Communications Group (TCG) is pleased to announce the recipients of $10,000 RESPOND grants as part of the THRIVE! Uplifting Theatres of Color program. With $1,635,000 in support from Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, TCG is working in partnership with an Advisory Circle of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC*) to provide unrestricted funds for Black theatres, Indigenous theatres, and Theatres of Color (BITOC*) based in the U.S. (including Tribal Nations and U.S. Territories). RESPOND provides unrestricted funds to theatres to address immediate, time-sensitive challenges that prevent ongoing work with their community. At the heart of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts is a collection of video recordings which has documented and preserved theatre history, America’s diverse and expansive culture, and revolutionized theatre research. The Theatre on Film and Tape Archive (TOFT) has long been recognized as the first and foremost collection of video recorded live theatre performances in the world, and 2020 marked its 50th anniversary. The Library for the Performing Arts celebrates this landmark collection with an exhibition opening on July 14, 2022 (delayed due to the pandemic). 
ESTA will host the very first Midwest Rigging Intensive on August 25-27 in Chicago. The weekend-long event will feature a curriculum developed by a group of dedicated instructors, all of whom are ETCP Recognized Trainers. With a focus on practical learning for entertainment riggers, the Midwest Rigging Intensive will be a fantastic opportunity to train with some of the top minds in the industry: Ben Brian (Reed Rigging), Tyler DeLong (DeLong Rigging Solutions), Brent “Mickey” Henry (ETC), Ed Leahy (Chicago Flyhouse), Tracy Nunnally (Vertigo), Patrick Stewart (ETC), Shane Kelly (DePaul University), Rebecca Knipfer (ETC), and Verda Beth Martell (DLR Group). This exciting new event will provide enough hours to fulfill a technician’s ETCP Education Renewal Credits requirement.

Hall’s solutions support collaboration and connectivity for seamless communications
The Ruth Foundation for the Arts (Ruth Arts) has debuted in the landscape of arts philanthropy with the announcement of its inaugural grantmaking cycle. The new foundation is supported by a bequest from the late Ruth DeYoung Kohler II, and expects to award grants totaling more than $17 million annually. The first class of Ruth Arts grantees—an initial round of funding that precedes the regular giving cycles that the organization will embark upon later this year—includes 78 nonprofit arts organizations that have been awarded a total of $1.25 million in funding. These individual grants range from $10,000 to $50,000 each.
The Shubert Foundation announced a record $37.6 million in unrestricted grants to not-for-profit theaters, dance companies, academic theater training programs, and related service agencies. As a leader in funding for the arts the Foundation has also made two $1 million gifts to create endowed scholarships for theater students at the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Spelman College and Morehouse College.
