Projection Studio Wows Edinburgh Tattoo Crowds

EDINBURGH, UK – Ross Ashton and The Projection Studio are again “wowing” the crowds at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, with giant projections mapped onto the castle wall as soon as dusk falls. Chief executive/producer is again Brigadier David Alfrey. This year’s theme, “Our Wonderful World,” highlights Scotland’s natural beauty.

LONDON – To promote their literacy campaign, the London Evening Standard, in partnership with Nook, planned a one-day event in Trafalgar Square called ‘Get Reading.’ The July 13 event featured an appearance by War Horse, performances from the casts of Billy Elliot The Musical and Wicked and live readings by celebrities including Hugh Grant, Warwick Davis and Rupert Everett.

MONTREAL – After working on Jay Z’s two nights show at Carnegie Hall last year, Moment Factory was tasked by Roc Nation (entertainment company founded by Jay-Z) and Willo Perron to work on one of the biggest stadium tours of the summer: Justin Timberlake and Jay Z’s “Legends of the Summer.” For this fast-track project, Moment Factory had the mandate to create original video content that would enhance the artists’ performance onstage and maximize the impact of the sizeable scenography.

Mounted at the New National Pavilion, Mohammed Kazem makes a visual contribution to “Walking on Water.”

SMPTE to Receive Emmy Award for HD-SDI Standard

WHITE PLAINS, NY — SMPTE will be honored with a 2013 Emmy Award for Technology and Engineering by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Jan. 9, 2014, in conjunction with the CES Show in Las Vegas. The honor recognizes SMPTE’s development, standardization and production of the High-Definition Serial Digital Interface (HD-SDI) standard.

NanoLumens Engages Commuters at NYC’s Penn Station

NEW YORK CITY — To capitalize on the massive daily audience that passes through New York City’s Penn Station, CBS Outdoor turned to NanoLumens to provide an advertising solution that can’t be missed. The NanoSlim display hangs directly over the heads of 300,000 daily commuters as they travel through the Long Island Railroad corridor of the station. The installation marks the first time that a digital advertising display has ever been suspended from the ceiling in this transit center.

MUMBAI, India — The 300-acre Adlabs Imagica Theme Park has been equipped with 40 Christie projectors for five themed attractions, including five Roadster S+22K-J projectors that are used with a 90-feet wide screen for the “i for India” attraction, pictured here. The show transports audiences on a helicopter journey around the Indian subcontinent.

LOS ALAMOS, NM – Los Alamos National Laboratory has selected Christie for an extensive upgrade to its Powerwall Theater (PWT), a facility that enables researchers to view the complex models and simulations they have created using some of the world’s fastest supercomputers. The new theater will feature 40 Christie Mirage WU-L WUXGA DLP 3D LED projectors in a 5 wide by 4 high node grid configuration with double-stacked projectors in each node onto a new high fidelity glass Stewart filmscreen.

Avolites Media Spins Visual Magic at Glastonbury

UK – Avolites Media’s Ai infinity 8 Server has powered the video mapping of a giant robotic Spider Stage at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. The 30 ft Spider Stage, constructed by ‘sculpture-based organization’ Arcadia, featured eight metal legs surrounding a core-like DJ box, all of which were video mapped by Ai Infinity 8 via a mixture of preprogrammed sequences and live-control.
